Side Effects of Loxitane

Loxitane, also known as loxapine, is an antipsychotic used to treat schizophrenia. It is available by prescription only and comes in three forms: a solution, a capsule and a tablet. Before deciding with your doctor to use this medication to treat your condition, you need to be aware of any and all side effects.

Common Side Effects

The most common side effects associated with Loxitane include drowsiness, twitching of your muscles, an inability to sleep, hair loss, dry mouth, constipation, problems urinating, weight loss or gain, weakness, numbness, puffy or flushed face, nasal congestion, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting and headaches.

Severe Side Effects

If you experience any of these side effects, you should discontinue use of your medication and contact your doctor immediately. These side effects include seizures, signs of low blood pressure like dizziness and fainting, rapid heartbeat, severe constipation, muscle tension, high blood pressure, feeling restless or anxious and inexplicable bruising or bleeding. A condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) may also develop as a side effect. Its symptoms include high fever, confusion, irregular pulse or blood pressure and profuse sweating.
