National Football League players undergo strenuous workouts and follow strict diets to build muscle and maintain a healthy physique for optimum performance. Training camps are dedicated to helping NFL players meet their goals and stay in shape. Following the rigorous exercise and dieting practice that NFL players use will help you increase muscle mass and burn calories more efficiently.

Step 1

Exercise daily beginning with calisthenics and working into high-impact aerobic exercise and weightlifting. Interval training is beneficial for muscle building. Rotating your strength training exercises for the duration of your workout helps intensify your efforts, according to personal trainer Todd Durkin.

Step 2

Eat a diet with emphasis on lean meats and fresh produce. According to NFL player Tony Gonzalez and nutritionist Mitzi Dulan, you should eat whole organic foods to maintain energy levels and increase endurance as you build muscle.

Step 3

Increase your dietary intake to ensure the that you provide your body with enough calories to increase your energy during workouts. As you exercise, your body burns calories, with muscle-building burning the most. Without enough calories, you will become exhausted before your workout is over.

Step 4

Work your core muscles frequently to improve stability and overall upper body strength. Trainer Durkin says that core exercises focus on your back, chest, stomach and hips, which take most of the weight during games.
