The body has seven chakras, or energy points, that exist to receive and transmit energy. Eastern religions and healing modalities use the chakras to pinpoint disease. Clearing a blocked chakra will help the body heal itself, according to medical intuitive, television host and author Caroline Myss. Myss, author of "Anatomy of the Spirit," uses her abilities to help people heal. She reports that headaches are most often due to issues with the crown and brow chakras. While energy work may help relieve the pain of a headache, also seek input from a traditional health care provider.
Definition of Chakras
The body has seven chakras that begin at the base of the spine and extend up through the top of the head. Each chakra holds information about a specific area of the body. The seven chakras are root, spleen, solar plexus, heart, throat, brow -- sometimes called the third-eye chakra -- and crown. The chakras are treated by releasing any blockages to the flow of energy to them.
Causes of Dysfunction
The crown and brow chakras most directly affect headaches. The brow chakra controls the brain and nervous system, while the crown chakra controls emotional health, including depression and stress. Negative emotions such as anger or fear, and physical issues such as poor eating habits, cause chakra blockages. Issues with the brow chakra result in headaches and blurred vision, while an out-of-balance crown chakra can be the cause of more persistent headaches such as migraines.
Treatment
Reiki is the recommended treatment for chakra blockages. The Reiki practitioner places his hands where he feels the energy blockage exists and uses his energy to gently move and clear any blockages in that energy flow. You may feel a tingling sensation or warmth while the practitioner is working, and occasionally you may also feel some pain as the energy blockages are cleared. Most Reiki practitioners will work on several of the energy pathways to the brow and crown chakras to make sure that all the energy portals are cleared.
Warnings
There is little scientific evidence to suggest that energy work successfully treats headaches, but neither is there any evidence to debunk it. Anecdotal evidence exists from people who have found relief through this modality. If your headaches persist or interfere with everyday life, consult your doctor.
