Discipline is like your muscle, the more you train it the stronger you become. The less you train it the weaker you become. Let your goals and strong desire summon the discipline required to work your exercise program to the pinnacle. Your commitment to staying with an exercise program requires self-discipline and hard work, and if you think you can, you can accomplish your fitness goals.
Discipline
Discipline is a choice that requires purpose and action. Discipline does not have to be looked upon as a punishment or a burden when you choose it for yourself. Discipline is not a setback, rather an opportunity for a healthy advancement. Following an exercise program gives you a sense of routine, and it increases discipline and commitment. You owe it to yourself to remain disciplined throughout your exercise program.
Getting Motivated
If your expectations are unreasonable, you could end up abandoning your exercise program. Part of staying disciplined is the ability to stay motivated by setting realistic goals throughout your program. Try writing your specific goal down on paper. Visualizing achieving your goal will boost your attitude and motivation. As you accomplish a goal, check it off on your list. Remember that you may fall down, but do not give up. Get back up with a plan for getting back on track.
Frame of Mind
As described at BodyBuilding.com: "Self-discipline is essentially a frame of mind. When we think positive thoughts, self-discipline is more readily activated. On the flip side, negative thoughts promote a sloppy attitude and a weak mind." You will have to try and change any irritating self-fears and negative thinking to be in the right state of discipline to accomplish your personal goals. Think positive thoughts and think about exactly what it is your want to achieve. Commitment to your goals can be spoken out loud with words such as, "I can and I will bench this weight now."
Work Hard
"Impulse" magazine offers this important piece of advice: "Stop procrastination and do the right thing. Remember time is very precious and do not wait because obviously nothing will happen. Follow your workout plans." In order to put discipline into practice you need to work exceptionally and consistently hard. Make your fitness program an example of your reputation.
