Fruits contain more pectin than any other type of food. Pectin is a soluble fiber found inside plant cells. It helps the body flush away waste and reduces bad cholesterol. Pectin makes you feel full but does not increase the amount of fecal bulk. Colorado State University recommends consuming 14 g of fiber for every 1,000 calories you eat. Pectin is a high quality source for this fiber.
Apples
A single medium sized apple contains 3 g of pectin fiber. The University of California notes that the pectin found in apples is a great source of vitamins, contains very few calories and has no fat, sodium or cholesterol.
Grapes
Fruits with an edible peel like grapes are rich sources of pectin fiber. Grapes contain 0.93 g of pectin in a 100 g serving.
Strawberries
Strawberries are another great source of soluble pectin fiber. Strawberries have 0.40 g of pectin fiber in a 100 g serving. Pectin slows down the passage of food through your digestive system and helps control glucose sugar levels.
Cantaloupe
Cantaloupe contains 0.43 g of pectin fiber in a 100 g serving. Cantaloupe contains pectin similar to that found in the skin of other fruits.
Other High Pectin Fruits
Other high pectin fruits include blackberries, raspberries, plumbs and cranberries. Fruits low in pectin include apricots, blueberries, cherries and pineapple.
