How to Find Non-Genetically Altered Soy Products

Locating non-genetically altered soy products can be a challenging feat due to the overwhelming amount of genetically modified soy on the market. According to Frances Sizer's "Nutrition: Concepts and Controversies," approximately 90 percent of the soy grown in America is genetically modified. However, by being aware of your purchases and asking some questions, you can find non-genetically altered soy products.

Step 1

Purchase organic soy products. Organic soy products are never genetically modified. Organic soy products can often be located at health food stores and in organic sections of traditional grocery stores.

Step 2

Examine food labels for a label stating that the ingredients are not genetically modified. Reading the ingredients list won't disclose whether the soy was genetically modified. Manufacturers of foods that are not genetically modified will often advertise this fact on the packaging.

Step 3

Contact the manufacturers of soy products you would like to try but are unsure of. Contact information is commonly found on the food's package. Also, check the company's website for its contact information.

Step 4

Shop at farmers' markets and ask if the soy was genetically modified. Some farmers are unable to pay for organic certification but still grow their products organically and without genetically modifying them.
