Spirulina is a blue-green algae with a high vitamin and mineral count, being sold in powder, liquid and tablet form. Some people like to crush the tablets for easier consumption or to add them to foods and Spirulina's purity makes this safe to do. Most tablets have coatings that work with the medicine contained in the tablet and can lead to serious complications if crushed and swallowed. Spirulina tablets have no additives, coatings or fillers, making them safe to crush and consume.
Step 1
Place the tablet into the bowl and lay the rounded end of the spoon's head directly on top of the tablet. The bowl's raised rim will catch any pieces or powder that may escape when under pressure.
Step 2
Press down firmly on the spoon with a thumb to break the tablet. The bowl may need to be held with the other hand to prevent slipping. The tablet will split but still needs to be crushed into powder. To do this, turn the spoon from left to right continuously while depressing the spoon to grind down any solid pieces into fine powder.
Step 3
Take the powdered spirulina by mixing it with a beverage, such as water, fruit juice or smoothies. Spirulina can also be added to dishes such as soups or pastas.
