Raw potato juice is a traditional folk remedy for a multitude of ailments, from arthritis and gout to acne, eczema and stomach ulcers. Using the potato raw is crucial because the cooking process oxidizes the nutrients, eliminating the majority of vitamins and minerals. Drinking potato juice might help you lose weight because it alkalizes your body, improves your digestive system and has a mild laxative effect. Although potatoes are high in carbohydrates, they are low in fat and contain potassium and B complex vitamins.

Step 1

Choose small potatoes that do not have green or black spots and have not sprouted. Small potatoes that are harvested before they are fully mature contain the most nutrients. Potatoes that have sprouted or turned green contain a toxic alkaloid called solanine, which may cause stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea and headaches.

Step 2

Do not peel the potatoes, because most of the nutrients are in the skin or just under the skin. Make potato juice either by using a juicer or by grating a cleaned potato and squeezing the moisture out.

Step 3

Drink 1/2 cup of raw potato juice 30 minutes before breakfast. If you find the taste unpleasant, you can combine the potato juice with an equal amount of carrot juice. This will also help detoxify your liver.

Step 4

Drink another 1/2 cup of potato juice 2 hours before bedtime. Instead of carrot juice, add fresh lemon juice and 1 tbsp. of honey, which will keep your digestive system functioning well.

Step 5

Continue to drink potato juice twice daily for two weeks. Eat lightly, avoiding fried foods and refined sugars. Your balanced diet should include a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean protein.

Tips and Warnings

  • Potatoes may have a heavy pesticide residue -- use organic potatoes if possible.
  • Always consult your doctor before beginning any weight loss program.
