Nike has made several advances with its baseball gloves over recent years. The Nike Showtime gloves appeal to baseball players of all abilities with a soft feel and sleek design. Nike has made a push to secure more endorsements of top professional players, which has led to a spike among glove use with amateur and recreational players. All ballplayers will need to re-lace their Showtime glove after years of extended use to prolong the glove's useful life.
Step 1
Remove any excess dirt or grass from the glove and its surface by wiping the mitt down with leather softener or glove conditioner. This will allow the material to soften and make it easier to work with the laces.
Step 2
Note the lacing pattern before removing the laces. Write the positioning and wrapping down for easy installation later.
Step 3
Pull out one section of the old laces. Use scissors to cut excess lacing, and pull the remnants directly out of the holes.
Step 4
Take the new lacing and cut a piece that will run the length of the Showtime glove.
Step 5
Tie a knot at one end of the new lacing. Pull the knot tight so that it has no chance of unraveling -- during the process or over the course of the season.
Step 6
Push the lacing through the first hole by using the awl. If no awl is available, a pencil or ice pick can be substituted.
Step 7
Thread the lacing through the holes, following the pattern of the original lacing.
Step 8
Tie another knot at the end of the section. This will hold the lacing in place over the life of the glove.
Step 9
Adjust the knot so it is tight and secure at the end of the section. Continue working on other sections of the glove as needed.
Tips and Warnings
- Be sure to remember the lacing pattern, because re-lacing without the original threading in mind is very risky.
