Carbohydrates can be both good and bad for diabetics, according to the American Diabetes Association. Complex carbohydrates are healthy for diabetics, while simple carbohydrates can be detrimental. These fruits and vegetables also provide natural sugars, which are healthy for proper blood sugar. Fruits and vegetables supply essential dietary nutrients that are critical for diabetics to support the immune system and proper bodily functions such as vitamin C, iron, calcium, magnesium and B vitamins. However, fruits with too much sugar such as grapes or dates must be avoided, as they can raise blood sugar levels too much in diabetics.

Yogurt supplies healthy bacteria that support digestion and the immune system. Diabetics should drink non-fat milk or skimmed milk to limit sugar and fat content. It is vital for diabetics to control their weight along with glucose levels so their body can break-down and use natural and healthy sugars. Cheeses are low in sugar and carbohydrates so they make snacks for diabetics, as they won't drastically raise or lower blood sugar levels. However, diabetics should choose the light cheese choices to avoid fat content.
