How to Prepare Saw Palmetto as Tea

Saw palmetto is a palm-like plant that produces berries and can reach heights of 10 feet. It was a staple food and medicinal plant for Native Americans. Its berries are used to prepare medicine to treat conditions such as coughs, colds, bronchitis and enlarged prostate. The berries are nutrient-dense with high levels of zinc, phosphorus, chromium, magnesium, potassium, selenium and iron. According to Anthony J. Cichoke, author of "Secrets of Native American Herbal Remedies," you can reap the benefits of saw palmetto berries by preparing and drinking it as a tea.

Step 1

Pour 16 oz. of water into a small pot or kettle. Bring the water to a boil.

Step 2

Add two tsp. of saw palmetto berries to the kettle or pot of water. Allow the berries to steep for 30 minutes.

Step 3

Pour the tea through a sieve and throw away the saw palmetto berries. Pour the tea into a cup and drink. You may flavor the tea with lemon juice and honey to taste. Drink up to two cups per day.
