Quad skates are traditional roller skates that feature four wheels -- two up front and two behind, in side-by-side pairs -- and often have a brake mechanism up front. Some skates are better suited for the outdoors than others. Skating on outdoor quad skates can be a great way to exercise and explore the scenery. You can also play hockey with these skates.

Lenexa

The Lenexa Aerobic Outdoor Recreational Quad Skate is a high-end model quad skate that features BTL padding inside the boot to maximize comfort. These skates are designed for outdoor aerobic exercise, and have six different wheel colors available. The women's skates are white and the men's skates are black. These skates also have a Quad Cruiser plate that makes the skate feel quite light for the wearer. As of early 2011, these skates cost about $125.

Beach Roller Skates

The Beach Roller Quad Outdoor Roller skates are expensive -- about $200 as of early 2011, though some retailers price them at $250 or more. This skate has a flexible leather boot that offers a great amount of support. The skate also features an adjustable toe stop. The skate's sizing is identical to your shoe size, which makes shopping easier. The 65 mm wheels and bearings on this skate allow for smooth skating on outdoor surfaces.

SureGrip 1300

The SureGrip 1300 SuperX Aerobic Outdoor Rec Skates have suede leather boots and wheels that come in six different colors. The NetSkate website claims that this is the most comfortable high-top quad skate available. The two boot color options are tan or black. Men's sizes are the same as their shoe size. Women most likely have to go down at least one size from their shoe size. As of early 2011, the price for this skate ranges between about $190 and $220.

Considerations

Make sure to try on the skates before purchasing them -- not only to make sure you have the correct size, but also to make sure that they are comfortable enough to move around in. Also, do not purchase the most expensive model of outdoor quad skates if you are not a serious skater.
