Smoothies are meal replacements or supplements to meals that are made in a form you can drink. An enormous number of smoothie recipes are available, both in cookbooks and on the Internet, and you can adjust the recipe to suit your taste. Although some smoothie recipes are made with ice, you don't have to have your smoothie as a frozen treat. Instead, you can enjoy a chilled smoothie or even a hot smoothie as a substitute for a snack or dessert.
Step 1
Find recipes that contain your favorite ingredients or create your own and purchase the ingredients in advance. Use low- or non-fat yogurt and enough low or non-fat milk to make it smooth. Choose your favorite fruits and honey or juice for extra sweetness. Plan a week's worth of smoothies; purchase enough ingredients to make two smoothies a day.
Step 2
Have a blender or small food processor available to make your smoothies. If you're going to be making smoothies that contain frozen or hard fruits like apples, make sure your blender is made for heavy-duty chopping.
Step 3
Have a smoothie instead of a meal for breakfast. Never skip breakfast. Eating breakfast is one of the most important things you can do when trying to lose weight.
Step 4
Add 1 tbsp. powdered dietary fiber to your smoothies twice a day. Fiber helps maintain healthy digestion and keeps you feeling full for longer.
Step 5
Drink a smoothie instead of a snack or dessert at midday or after dinner.
