Acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine practice in which pressure is applied to the body's natural healing points. Yoga is an ancient form of overall wellness that uses the practice of poses -- or asanas -- to improve health. Both acupressure and yoga have the potential to relieve pain residing in the body, but it is best to consult your doctor first.
Acupressure for Fingers
The acupressure point located on the inside of either wrist will effectively address pain in the fingers, according to acupressure guru Michael Blate. Precisely the width of two thumbs above the most prominent crease on the inner wrist, in line with the middle finger, stimulate deeply with the tip of the finger, applying about 20 lbs. of pressure. Briskly rotate the fingertip in a counterclockwise motion for 15 to 20 seconds.
Yoga for Fingers
Plough pose, performed with extended arms and interlocked fingers, will relieve pain or cramps in the fingers, hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders, according to yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar. While lying on your back on a folded blanket, with your head hanging off the edge, bring the legs over the head and press the toes into the floor. Use the hands for support on the lower back to get into the pose, then extend the arms and interlock the fingers. Hold for one to five minutes.
Acupressure for Toes
There are two acupressure points that can help pain in the toes. The first is located behind the knee, at the center of the crease between the two ligaments. Do not use this point if you have varicose veins. The second point is located on the hollow valley behind the crown of the outer ankle. With the fingertip, stimulate each point for 15 to 20 seconds in a counterclockwise motion, applying 20 lbs. of pressure.
Yoga for Toes
Standing yoga poses will strengthen the feet and improve or correct foot problems, according to Timothy McCall, M.D., author of "Yoga as Medicine." Perform tree pose while balancing on one foot and bring the opposite sole of foot to the inside of the standing leg. Balance for 15 to 30 seconds. Downward facing dog pose performed with the heels pressing onto a wall will give the toes a stretch and may also reduce pain.
