Weight is gained when you eat more calories than your body can burn. Weight is lost when you burn more calories than you consume. This is called a "caloric deficit." In order for you to lose 1 pound of weight, 3500 calories must be expended through calorie reduction, exercise or a combination of both. As far as reducing your calorie intake goes, you can do this by making better your dietary choices and changing the timing of your meals.
