How to Understand a Cholesterol Reading

Heart disease is killing America. At least it's the nations number one killer according to the CDC. High cholesterol is one of the major risk factors in heart disease. In fact, the American Heart Association says that a person with high cholesterol is at twice the risk of heart disease than someone with cholesterol in the "optimal" range. Cholesterol, which is made naturally by the body, and is consumed by way of animal products, is very important to healthy body functioning. It is used in cell membranes, for the production of certain hormones, and aids in the digestion of fats.
