Strattera, also known as atomoxetine, is a drug used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Unlike other prescription medications used for this treatment, Strattera is not a stimulant. While this produces less severe side effects, it also takes longer for the medication to work as it needs to build up in your system. Common Side Effects
The most common side effects associated with Strattera include nausea, headaches, decreased appetite, vomiting, drowsiness, dry mouth, stomach pain, an inability to sleep, fatigue, impotence (in adult males), problems urinating, dizziness, heartburn, being jittery or shaky, painful urination, changes in your menstruation, weight loss and decreased sex drive.
Serious Side Effects
Aside from the most common side effects, there are severe side effects that are considerably more dangerous. They include feeling dizzy, having suicidal thoughts, being confused, hallucinating, experiencing a shortness of breath, aggressive behavior, chest pains and a tightness in your chest which makes it difficult for you to breathe.
Sign of Allergic Reaction
If you experience any signs of an allergic reaction to Strattera, call 911 and seek emergency medical assistance. These signs include the onset of hives or an unexplained rash, problems breathing or swallowing and the swelling of your face, tongue, lips and throat.
