Bowflex features the XP and FT in its line of Revolution home gyms. Both home gyms, considered to be Bowflex's top-of-the-line products for home gyms, are made with the company's patented SpiraFlex resistance plates, which have replaced Bowflex's Power Rods from earlier models. The FT model, also simply known as the Revolution, is designed for total-body workouts, while the XP focuses mainly on upper-body workouts.
Bowflex Revolution FT
The Revolution FT model features Bowflex's patented SpiraFlex resistance technology and Freedom Arms, which allow you to configure the machine's arms independently into 10 positions, spanning 170 degrees. The home gym was designed with small workout spaces in mind and has an "X"-shaped base to stabilize the vertical tower. The FT folds up and measures 55 inches by 38 inches for storage. There are more than 100 exercises possible with the FT.
Bowflex Revolution XP
The Revolution XP model also features Bowflex's SpiraFlex resistance technology. Unlike the FT model, however, the XP model offers only 90-plus exercises. The XP is designed with a focus on upper-body exercises and features Bowflex's adjustable Freedom Arms. Select lower-body exercises are possible on the XP, but Bowflex puts a twist on traditional exercises such as leg curls, which are performed standing on the XP. The squat rack on the XP is tall enough to accommodate most people, a feature often difficult to incorporate into home gyms.
Specs
The Bowflex Revolution XP provides up to 200 pounds of resistance but can be upgraded to 280 pounds. The home gym can be equipped with a leg curl/leg extension station, hand grips, foot harness and squat harness. Other accessory options for the XP include a lat tower and an abdominal crunch pad. The Bowflex Revolution FT offers up to 220 pounds of resistance, upgradeable to 300 pounds. The FT features a leg press plate with up to 440 pounds of resistance and can be equipped with a leg curl/leg extension station, as well as a preacher curl attachment. The FT also has an incorporated rowing machine. Other accessories include hand grips and foot harness.
Better Value
The price difference between the FT and XP is considerable, but if you are looking for a total-body workout home gym that allows you to mimic virtually every gym-type machine, the FT provides better value. The home gym offers more exercises overall and allows you to perform cardiovascular exercise with its built-in rowing machine. Considering the costs of cardio machines alone makes the FT a good investment if your fitness goals are to improve your strength and aerobic endurance.
