If your doctor recommends you reduce your cholesterol, you will need to read food labels to monitor your cholesterol intake. As a general rule, you can lower your cholesterol by limiting foods high in saturated fat and trans fat. Also, reduce the amount of meat you eat in your diet. When you are snacking, avoid meats, cheeses and buttery treats.

Fruit

You'll help lower your cholesterol by consuming fruit as snacks. You may serve fruit any style, including blended shakes, whole pieces and chopped for fruit salad. You can also choose to serve fruit with fat free dairy products, like yogurt and still not adversely affect cholesterol levels.

Ice Pops

Ice pops and shaved ice are not made from milk products, so you will be keeping your cholesterol level low when you eat these items. If you are concerned about the high amount of sugar in these snacks, choose sugar-free or reduced-sugar versions.

Popcorn

Popcorn is a low calorie snack with fiber. One cup of air-popped popcorn contains approximately 31 calories and 1.2 g of fiber. Pop your own at home without adding any salt or butter. If you need some flavoring, add a few squirts of a fat-free butter spray. Low-fat and fat-free varieties of microwave popcorn are also sold in stores.

Angel Food Cake

Angel food cake is a low cholesterol dessert made from flour, egg whites, sugar, vanilla and cream of tartar. One piece of angel food cake only contains about 70 calories and has 0 g of fat. Instead of using frosting, top a piece of the cake with fruit slices.

Fat Free Pudding

Puddings prepared with whole milk should be avoided if you want to snack on a low cholesterol item. Instead, make your own pudding with skim milk or 1 percent milk. Pre-made puddings are also available in fat-free and low-fat versions.
