A karate uniform is a functional and symbolic part of any karate student's education. A karate belt keeps the uniform in place. The belt provides security, even during intense physical exercises. Knowing how to tie your karate belt properly will allow you to forget about your uniform and concentrate on your training.
Step 1
Hold the belt stretched taut between both hands on the front of your stomach, at the height you want your belt.
Step 2
Wrap one end of the belt around your waist twice so that the tips meet again in front of your body.
Step 3
Take the right-hand belt tip and bring it over and under both layers of belt around your waist, pulling tight and adjusting so that both belt tips are of equal length.
Step 4
Cross the right tip over the left tip to create a loop, with the left tip on the bottom before passing the left tip around and over the right tip and through the loop, pulling tightly. This is also known as a standard square knot.
Tips and Warnings
