Kathy Smith is an entrepreneur in the fitness equipment and exercise videos industry. Since 1983, when her first video came out, Smith has sold more then 16 million programs worldwide, according to her website. Today, she is president of Kathy Smith Lifestyles, on the board of the USC School of Gerontology and a leader for the Women's Sports Foundation. Her videos cover a variety of fitness routines and some incorporate weight training.
About Kathy Smith
In 1980, Smith was a model and featured in a leotard ad on Sunset Boulevard. According to her website, she says her interest in fitness began at the age of 17 when her father died of a heart attack. She is a graduate for UCLA and a certified fitness trainer. Since beginning her career, Kathy Smith has covered walking for fitness, fitness goals for those with diabetes or osteoporosis and body sculpting. She offers packages that include kettlebells, light weights and weightlifting for fitness instructions.
Kathy Smith's Kettlebell Solution
Kettlebells are a weight tool, similar to free weights. They feature a round, weighted bottom and handle for easy grip. According to Smith, kettlebells work well for range of motion toning, stretching, strengthening and weight loss. The kettlebell video is for beginners. The program offers four 15-minute workouts, each focusing on a separate muscle group. Some sessions target the upper body, butt and thighs. Another workout targets fat burning. The Kettlebell Solution package includes one 3 lb. kettlebell, one 5 lb. kettlebell, the DVD, a nutrition guide and wall chart.
Walking for Fitness with Added Weights
The Walking for Fitness package from Kathy Smith incorporates light weights into a walking routine. The kit includes two 1-1/2 lb weights, a pedometer, two DVD routines and a journal to track your success. The video offer ways to walk outdoors for fitness and explains how you might walk inside when weather restricts your program. The weights add additional resistance when you walk. Smith promises including weights into a walking program will burn additional calories and improve overall fitness.
Kathy Smith -- Lift Weight to Lose Weight Double Feature
This package is video-only and you must supply your own free weights. The program includes two DVDs that offer seven workout routines using weight training. Disc one features the fundamentals of lifting to shape and tone muscle. Disc two works to boost metabolism through weight lifting. Overall, the sessions provide a plan for upper body, lower body, the core muscle group, abs and back and improving posture. Smith designed these workout videos for women between the ages of 35 to 65 and for all fitness levels.
