Although chips and candy bars are easy to take on the go, these items increase your calorie count and have no nutritional value. If you or your children need to eat on the go, choose healthier options packed with vitamins and minerals and modest calorie counts. To avoid the urge to grab junk food, remove all sugary snacks and chips from the home.

100-Calorie Snack Packs

Snack companies, such as Hostess and Nabisco, have created snack packs with smaller portion sizes to keep calorie intake low. The snack packs are convenient to place in purses, lunch boxes and diaper bags. The 100-calorie packs can be more expensive than larger bulk containers. To save money, you can measure out the portions yourself at home and place them in plastic baggies.

Granola Bites

You may love the taste of granola, but feel wary of the large calorie count. In ½ cup of granola, there are approximately 225 calories. Granola Bites are balls of granola that come prepackaged in 90-calorie servings. The snack is sold through the food producer Quaker.

1/2 Whole Grain Bagel and Light Cream Cheese

If you are hungry on the go, you may want to bring along something filling to snack on. Whole grain bagels are full of fiber and the light cream cheese keeps you from adding on excess calories. You'll consume approximately 200 calories when eating this snack.

Fat-Free Yogurt

Fruit flavored yogurts taste delicious and are high in important nutrients, like fiber and calcium. Choose fat-free versions that contain 100 calories or less. If you are eating it on the go, don't forget to grab a spoon.

Whole Grain Crackers and String Cheese

String cheese is easy to take on the go and varieties made with low-fat milk do not have a high fat and calorie count. Take along about five or six whole grain crackers to snack on with the string cheese. This snack is high in protein and fiber and has about 240 calories.
