Jenny Craig Type 2 is a diet delivery program that can help you lose weight. The program offers small meals and snacks to help you lose weight and regulate your blood sugar levels. You might be interested in this program if you want to lose weight but do not want to cook fancy meals. Get your doctor's advice for choosing a diet, and continue to take your prescription medications for diabetes.

Background

A healthy weight loss diet may be a significant step in managing your diabetes or preventing it. Most people who have type 2 diabetes are overweight or obese, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that losing extra weight can your blood sugar control to prevent complications. If you are overweight and have pre-diabetes, losing weight can reduce your risk for developing diabetes. Jenny Craig emphasizes weight loss through portion control and education.

Meals

Each day that you are on Jenny Craig Type 2, you eat a prepared breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert or snack from Jenny Craig. When you order your food, you can order the pre-planned menu that Jenny Craig suggests, or you can select each individual meal and snack from the 80 options. Jenny Craig emphasizes a balanced diet that uses portion control and does not eliminate food groups. The meal plans meet national recommendations for a healthy diet in the 2005 Dietary Guidelines, as well as guidelines from the American Diabetic Association for managing your blood sugar.

Sample Foods

Your meal and snack options on Jenny Craig Type 2 are the same as on the other Jenny Craig plans. For breakfast, you might have scrambled eggs, pancakes or a breakfast bar, and lunch could be a turkey burger, a salad or bowl of chicken soup. Dinner could be chicken fajitas, salmon or meatballs, and your dessert or snack might be cookies, cake, pretzels or vegetable chips. Your Jenny Craig counselor will recommend additional foods for you to purchase at a grocery store, and these may include low-fat dairy, fruits and vegetables and whole grains.

Program Support

If you do Jenny Craig Type 2 In-Centre, you meet privately once per week with your Jenny Craig counselor at a clinic, or you can choose Jenny Craig At Home if you prefer to consult over the telephone. During your sessions, you discuss progress over the past week and goals for the coming week to keep yourself on track. You can also take advantage of online resources such as the activity planner, online journal and progress tracker.
