Juice fasting, water fasting, the Lemonade Diet and the Fat Flush Diet are all cleansing diets that claim to cleanse your body of unwanted toxins. These diets claim that they will help increase your energy, increase your metabolism and ward off illness by eliminating toxins from your blood, liver, kidneys and intestinal tract. According to Mayo Clinic Nutritionist Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D. there is little evidence that cleansing diets actually remove toxins from the body. Your kidneys and liver effectively remove toxins from your body daily, notes Zeratsky. The best way to cleanse your body is to consistently eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of fluids.
Step 1
Drink two extra glasses of water daily. Avoid drinks with added sugars and chemicals that can cause water weight gain and bloat, such as soda, diet soda, juices and alcoholic beverages.
Step 2
Eat four to five servings of fresh fruits and vegetables daily for optimal health. Steam your vegetables or eat them raw, but avoid adding butter or sauces.
Step 3
Eat lean proteins to keep your body functioning properly, your energy high and your metabolism revved, according to Tosca Reno, author of the "Eat Clean Diet." Choose lean beef, fish, turkey, chicken and tofu and keep your portion size small, about the size of your palm, according to Reno.
Step 4
Eat unprocessed and unrefined complex carbohydrates for optimal fiber, which naturally cleanses your colon. Choose wild, brown and basmati rice, steel-cut oatmeal, quinoa, couscous and whole grain pastas, breads and cereals.
