Information on the Wii Fit & How It Provides Physical Exercise

Active video games like the Wii Fit get you off the couch and moving around to play the games. The program simulates a variety of real life spots and exercise moves for physical activity. The Wii Fit is appropriate for kids and adults because of the simple controls. Basics

The Wii remote and the Wii Fit Balance Board work together to track user movements during game play. The Balance Board rests on the floor, and the user stands on it. The board also serves as a scale to measure weight, which is tracked within the program. The user selects a Mii character to represent herself on the screen. As the user moves and manipulates the Wii controller, the Mii character moves accordingly. While playing Wii Fit, you move in a similar way as you would if you were actually participating in the sport. For example, in the boxing game, you punch and move your feet like you would if you were hitting an actual punching bag. You burn calories through these movements.

Activity Types

The Wii Fit includes different categories of exercises. The categories are Balance, Yoga, Strength and Aerobics. Each category contains several different activity options. When you select an activity, the Wii Fit program explains the game and begins the routine. Most Wii Fit games last for a set amount of time. Your performance and repetitions are tracked during that time period. Performing a particular activity multiple times with quality results unlocks advanced levels. These new levels increase the challenge level for a more intense workout.

Tracking

The Wii Fit program tracks your progress for you to create a comprehensive fitness tracker. Each time you start the game, you have the option of taking the Body Test, which measures your weight and balance. The program calculates your BMI and adds it to the chart. As you exercise, the game tracks the amount of time you work out and estimates the calories you burn. The tracking aspect of the video game allows you to look back at your progress. The timer feature gives you a record of your weekly exercise to make sure you hit the minimum 2 1/2 hours. Two days of strength training, which you can do on the Wii Fit, are also recommended.

Benefits

Exercising on the Wii Fit is more entertaining than traditional exercise to many people. The game aspect makes you feel like you're just playing instead of exercising. For some people, this allows them to stick with the exercise program more consistently. The program offers a wide variety of exercise and game options to create a customized workout. If you get bored with a particular activity, you have the option of moving on to something different.
