Cellulite is really just body fat. The signature dimpling happens when fat cells enlarge or become more numerous and fill up the spaces between the fibrous connective tissue that anchors your skin to your muscles. Cellulite's appearance has more to do with the placement of body fat than the amount, which explains why even thin people have it, according to MedlinePlus. There's no scientifically proven way to get rid of arm cellulite, but diet and exercise changes may reduce cellulite's appearance in some people.

Step 1

Change your diet to one that promotes weight loss. Eat high-fiber, high-nutrient fruits and vegetables. Switch to whole grains in place of processed grains. Choose meat and dairy products carefully to ensure they're low in saturated fat. Weight loss helps reduce the appearance of cellulite in some people.

Step 2

Remain adequately hydrated. Dehydration makes cellulite look worse. Eat high-water fruits and vegetables. Drink roughly eight glasses of water each day. Avoid getting your fluids from high-calorie juices and sports drinks.

Step 3

Participate in at least 20 minutes or more of aerobic exercise. A combination of aerobic exercise and strength training demonstrated significant cellulite improvement in a Massachusetts YMCA study conducted by Wayne Westcott, Ph.D.

Step 4

Lift weights and participate in strength training activities like yoga to tone and firm the muscles in your arm. Firm, toned muscles combine with your weight loss efforts to improve your overall body composition and appearance. Include at least five exercises for your upper body, like bicep curls and triceps extensions.

Step 5

Avoid common activities that make cellulite worse, like crash dieting and smoking.

Tips and Warnings

  • Skip creams and wraps that promise to cure cellulite do not work. There's no cure for cellulite and most of these treatments cause no improvements or very temporary skin smoothing.
