How to Cook With Cod Liver Oil

Cod liver oil is a supplement that is rich in a number of different vitamins, including vitamins A and D. Cod liver oil also contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are a type of fat that has been linked to reducing cholesterol levels and reducing the body's inflammatory response. As such, some people use it to treat arthritis and relieve stiff joints. Although the scientific evidence on the effects of cod liver oil are mixed, it can be added to your diet, once your physician approves.

Step 1

Make salad dressing using cod liver oil. CarlsonLabs.com recommends mixing 4 tbsp. of fish oil with 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar and balsamic vinegar. You can then add fresh garlic, garlic powder, sea salt, crushed rosemary and fresh ground pepper to the mixture and shake to mix.

Step 2

Make smoothies with cod liver oil. This recipe, which comes form Perfect-Supplements.com, involves mixing 1 tsp. of cod liver oil, 1 tbsp. of cocoa, 1 cup of milk, 1 tbsp. of maple syrup, 1/2 to 1 cup of water and 5 ice cubes. Run the blender until the mixture is smooth.

Step 3

Add cod liver oil to salsa. One suggestion from CarlsonLabs.com is to combine 2 cups of chopped tomatoes, 2 tbsp. each of chopped red onions and minced chili peppers, 1/4 cup of coarsely chopped cilantro, 1/4 cup of lime juice and 2 tsp. of cod liver oil. Mix the ingredients together, then let them sit for 20 minutes so the flavors can blend.
