Slimfast is a company that manufactures a range of meal replacements shakes, snack bars and meal bars to be used as part of a calorie controlled diet. They also offer a range of easy to prepare recipes containing only 500 calories. Several healthy, low-calorie alternatives are available.

Slimfast

The Slimfast 3:2:1 plans is designed to help you loose weight with quick results and to maintain a healthy weight while also having a healthy, balanced diet. If you opt for the Slimfast diet you can choose from a selection of their snack bars, fruits, nuts or veggies. Each snack has only 100 calories and you are allowed three each day. You also choose two shakes or meal bars each day. The purpose of these is to replace two of your regular meals with extra protein and vegetables rather than starch and carbohydrates. The third part of the Slimfast plan is to prepare one 500 calorie meal per day. Slimfast provides recipes that are designed in their own test kitchen. As a general rule these meals contain half a plate full of vegetables, a quarter of a plate of starch and a small piece of lean meat.

Smoothies

Alternatives to Slimfast meal replacements are available. If you don't like the taste of Slimfast shakes, a healthy alternative is a fruit smoothie. You can buy low-calorie smoothies from the health store. They are also quite simple to make at home. You can use a variety of fruits and vegetables to suit your own taste. You can make a tasty low-calorie smoothie using plain fat-free yogurt as a base and adding your favorite fruits and berries. Puree them in a blender and your smoothie is ready to drink. If you prefer a low-calorie vegetable alternative, you can use tomato juice as a base and add grated vegetables, such as celery, carrot and beets. You can spice up your vegetable drink with hot sauce, paprika or garlic.

Fullbar

Fullbar was designed by a bariatric surgeon who wanted to create an option for patients who wanted to lose significant weight without surgery. Fullbar is a weight loss snack that should be eaten 30 minutes before meals, twice daily. It is designed to fill the stomach so less food will be eaten at meals. The bars do not contain any appetite suppressants or fat burners. They contain soy, carbohydrates and fiber and range from 150 to 180 calories.

Other Snacks

A range of healthy snacks are low-calories and are great substitutes for Slimfast shakes or diet snack bars, according to Fitness website. For example, a home made trail mix composed of a palm full of walnuts with half of raisins and a few chocolate chips has only around 250 calories. Two Graham crackers with 1 tbsp. of light peanut butter has only 155 calories.
