1. Don't Believe Everything You Read

You may find many websites are big proponents of the alternative forms of yeast infection treatments. Some websites are just trying to get you to buy the next miracle supplement. You can't always believe what you read on the net. Be especially wary of those websites that are trying to sell you their latest cure-all.

2. Traditional Versus Alternative? Do Both!

While some alternative yeast infection treatments are not all they are cracked up to be, some actually will do you some good. Most doctors are willing to consent to what is called complementary treatments. This means that while the "traditional" treatment of some type of drug is applied, you may also pursue the "alternative" treatment at the same time. If your doctor balks at this, you may want to find a doctor more accepting of your alternative wishes.

3. Check Out Some Alternatives

If you want to try some alternative yeast infection treatments, you have plenty to choose from. One is caprylic acid, extracted from coconuts, which you can find at health food stores. You may not want to try this treatment, however, if you are allergic to coconuts. Another option is apple cider vinegar which, applied topically, seems to give some relief. Among the other alternative treatments, you'll find garlic, hydrogen peroxide therapy and oil pulling. Just be sure to go over any treatment with your doctor before proceeding.

4. Change Your Diet, Change Your Life

All the alternative yeast infection treatments might have some merit, but the most effective treatment can be dietary changes. Leaving out all the sugar and simple carbs can provide great, long lasting yeast relief. The old adage that you are what you eat certainly pertains to your immune system's ability to overcome yeast. Go for the veggies and cut the carbs and you should be feeling better in no time.

5. Yeast Infection is Serious Business

You should always talk to your doctor before trying any yeast infection treatments. While the causes of yeast infections can range from antibiotic usage to hormone changes, you should never fool around with systemic yeast. You can actually die from a yeast infection if it infects your circulatory system, which means the yeast is in your blood. Having a yeast infection can also be a sign of a more serious condition, such as diabetes or AIDS. Be sure to discuss your symptoms with your doctor so you get the testing you need to be sure your not dealing with a more serious situation.
