Winsor Pilates is a form of the Pilates exercise created by instructor Mari Winsor. The Winsor method focuses on six basic principles. You must perfect each principle to gain maximum benefits. Before starting on any exercise regime, it is advisable that you consult your doctor to ensure you are healthy enough to do so.
Step 1
Learn to concentrate. Many different Pilates moves require you to stay in one position throughout the whole exercise. You will need to exercise in a tranquil location, listen to the instructions while you focus on the body part you are working on and envision that body part becoming stronger.
Step 2
Learn how to control your body. If you move slowly, the results will be more effective. Slow and steady movements during a Winsor Pilates routine will enable you to perform fewer repetitions because you are tiring your muscles quickly, keeping your body under control.
Step 3
Focus on your core. Winsor Pilates emphasizes the importance of the core. When performing the exercises, focus on keeping your core tensed and pulled in.
Step 4
Practice your breathing technique. Breathe in and out while performing Winsor Pilates exercises. To practice the technique, breathe in slowly and then breathe out at the same time as you keep your stomach muscles tight -- the same method that you use when you blow through a straw.
Step 5
Align your body throughout all routines to get yourself into the habit of always thinking about the length of your body. Never stoop or crouch.
Step 6
Move your body in an effortless and fluid motion. Think about the way a dancer moves her body as she changes positions.
