The speed bag is such an iconic part of the sport of boxing that Hollywood movies will use its signature rhythm to establish that a scene is taking place in a boxing gym. If you like to box, sooner or later you will want one in your house to practice with. You can go with a free-standing option for flexibility and ease of installation. For a more traditional look that won't occasionally tip over, mounting a board to your wall will be your best bet.
Step 1
Examine the hanging frame of your speed bag and locate the screw holes. In most models, they will be in two lines, spaced at 16 inches to accommodate standard spacing for wall studs.
Step 2
Use your stud finder to locate two adjacent studs in the wall where you want to mount the speed bag. Mark their locations using your pencil.
Step 3
Set your level against the wall so it crosses both studs. Slide it upward until its top edge is at the level where you want the top of the hanging frame. Adjust it so it's level, then draw a line along the top edge.
Step 4
Line the hanging board of your speed bag kit up with the line you just drew. Be sure the screw holes line up with your wall studs.
Step 5
Hold the hanging board in place as you drive one screw through each hole and into the stud behind. It's best to drive in one screw, then re-adjust the board to make sure it's level before driving in the others.
Step 6
Attach the striking board of your speed bag kit to the hanging board according to the instructions provided by the manufacturer. This is the point of greatest variety between makes and models of speed bags.
Step 7
Attach the speed bag to the striking board by aligning its holes with the holes in the metal bracket at the center of the board. Slide the pin that came with the kit through the holes, then lock it in place with the U-pin.
