Experiencing weight gain after you've already tasted the fruits of success once can be especially demotivating. Whether you've fallen off the wagon and reverted back to your old habits, experienced a pregnancy or simply stopped trying after reaching your first weight loss goal, you are bound to see weight gain when your lifestyle changes for the worse. By taking stock of your weight loss strategy and employing what works, you can once again lose weight again and -- this time -- keep it off.
Step 1
Talk to friends, a therapist or write in a journal about your weight gain and why it happened. It can be easy to revert back to old habits that bring on the pounds. By pinpointing exactly why you regained that weight, you can be ready for the same temptations.
Step 2
Evaluate your last diet and exercise program to decide what works and what doesn't. For instance, you may have regained the weight because your last diet was faddish and required impossible-to-maintain eating habits. Once you began eating normally again, you may have gained weight.
Step 3
Eat healthy meals five times a day. Starving yourself for a diet or eating only one type of food may help you see fast weight loss, but you'll likely gain the weight back once you resume your normal habits. Choose weight loss plans that focus on healthy habits that you can develop for life, not just a specified amount of time. Those are the plans that will facilitate long-term weight loss success.
Step 4
Enlist friends and family as a support system for your weight loss. It can be embarrassing to admit that your first diet and weight loss success didn't last, but it's tough to try and lose weight on your own. You may find that your loved ones want to join in your efforts, making it easier for you to make better food choices and maintain more activity throughout the day.
Step 5
Work harder to get that weight to come off. You may find that weight loss the second time around is more difficult that your earlier success, due mostly to the fact that your body composition has changed. That means you'll need to eat healthier and work out every day to achieve weight loss again. Don't become discouraged when it takes twice the amount of time to see results. Healthy eating and daily activity will always spawn weight loss eventually.
