Adjusting your Polaris snowmobile skis can ensure a smooth and safe ride. Things like rough terrain, weakened wear bars and tweaked steering columns can mess with the alignment of your skis, which can result in damaged parts and bad steering. Snowmobiling can be extremely dangerous if you don't take the proper safety precautions, and that includes adjusting your sled's ski alignment to ensure that it steers in the right direction.
Step 1
Remove the two steel alignment channels from the kit box and insert them under the ski's wear bars. Align the channels so that the ends are parallel to the ends of the skis.
Step 2
Adjust the sled's handlebars so that they are perfectly even, resulting in the skis facing directly forward and even with each other. Push down on the front of the sled three of four times to ensure it is settled.
Step 3
Loosen all of the steering tie rod jam nuts using the adjustable wrench. Hold the skis together at the tips by wrapping the bungee strap between the ski handles to ensure your skis have a toe-out condition.
Step 4
Measure the channels from either the inside or outside using the ruler or tape measure on both skis. Record the measurements.
Step 5
Adjust the tie rods until the new measurement is between 1/8 to 1/4 inches greater than the measurements you recorded previously.
Step 6
Tighten the tie rod jam nuts and measure the alignment once more. Record the measurements and remove the bungee strap.
