Whether you're looking for a workout routine that's enjoyable enough to make you get moving or looking to add a little oomph to your current regimen, making fun part of your fitness plan is an effective way to boost your motivation and meet your weight-loss goals. As with any fitness regimen, check with your health care provider to make sure you're healthy enough for the plan you have in mind.

Playground Moves

Your favorite playground moves from childhood can make a fun grown-up workout, too. As long as you're getting at least 10 minutes of continuous exercise, you can burn calories hula hooping, playing backyard soccer, practicing your basketball dribble or even playing tag. Some health clubs offer recess-themed workout classes, but if you have a big backyard or nearby park, it's easy to put together a playground workout on your own.

Video Games

You might not get fresh air, but some fitness video games can give you a good workout and entertain you at the same time. Video game systems like the Nintendo Wii and XBox 360 Kinect require you to move much like you would in a fitness class and can be a great way to try out new workouts, like skiing, belly dancing or yoga.

Dancing

Whether you try salsa, cha-cha, swing or hip hop, dancing can be one of the most fun ways to work out. A class is a good option, since meeting other people can enhance the fun factor, but if you're shy about your dance moves, there are plenty of dance DVDs you can follow at home.

Indoor Rock Climbing

A great activity to do with a group, indoor rock climbing gives you a good cardiovascular and strength-training workout as you pull yourself up a studded wall. With much of the danger of outdoor rock climbing removed, indoor rock climbing lets you strive for the heights and revel in the satisfaction of reaching them while losing weight.

Trampolines

Kids like bouncing on trampolines because it's fun, but a trampoline is also an effective way to get a good, easy-on-your-joints workout. Not only does a combination of running and jumping on a trampoline get your heart pumping, it also helps you tone all over. Look for a trampoline class at your local health club or check out a video to try a trampoline workout at home.
