NordicTrack became well-known as a manufacturer of popular home-fitness ski-exercise machines in the 1990s. But the boomlet for ski machines faded and NordicTrack filed for bankruptcy. Later it teamed with Icon Health and Fitness, which manufactures treadmills for NordicTrack and a batch of other athletic-equipment companies. NordicTrack treadmills are known for lots of features, moderate prices and beautifully designed machines. They are targeted to the casual exerciser and not the serious athlete, so the well-designed bells and whistles, such as integrated TVs and stereos, can operate as incentives to get you to exercise more. Most review sites write that NordicTrack treadmills have substantially improved in quality in 2010 and 2011. NordicTrack models are now rated among the best treadmills in several different categories.
NordicTrack A2750 Pro
Consumer Search selected the NordicTrack A2750 Pro in 2011 as the "Best Treadmill for Casual Runners." Selling for around $990 as of February, 2011, the A2750 features 22 different workout programs and built-in speakers for an MP3 player. The treadmill has a top speed of 12 mph. NordicTrack has an improved warranty, with lifetime coverage for the frame and motor, three years for parts and one year for service. Treadmill Talk also praises the A2750, describing it as "one of the best deals on the market," in terms of such basics such as deck size, cushioning, power, low noise, excellent programs and reliability.
NordicTrack Commerical 1500 and 1750
The popular NordicTrack1500 has been showing on best buy lists for years, according to Treadmill Talk. It continues to be recommended by independent review sites. An upgraded model, the 1750, is considered ever better. Consumer Search calls the 1500 "one of the most solid treadmills NordicTrack has ever made," ranking it as the top pick in the $1,000 to $1,299 category. It finds favor with the 1750 as well, ranking it as the third-best treadmill in the $1,300 to $1,499 category and selecting it as the fourth-best new model of 2011. NordicTrack Treadmill Review recommends the 1750 as well.
Other Top Models
In addition to the Commercial 1750, NordicTrack Treadmill Reviews recommends two other Nordic Track models, the C 900, which sells for about $1,000, and the Elite 9500 Pro, which cost about $2,000. Treadmill Talk also likes the Elite 9500 Pro, describing it as a "nice blend of construction, fun entertainment, challenging workouts, and solid framing..."
Considerations
Both Treadmill Talk and Treadmill Tips caution that you to stick to the newer model NordicTrack treadmills. The latter review site says that older NordicTrack models are lacking in the quality and fit of the its newer models, and the warranties of the older models are limited. This is of particular importance because repair costs for NordicTrack treadmills are relatively expensive. Treadmill Talk describes the newer 2010 and 2011 models as far superior to older models, and advises buyers to consider the basics when buying a treadmill as well as the bells and whistles.
