The Thrive Diet is an eating plan developed by Ironman and triathlete Brendan Brazier. Instead of eating a meat-centric diet, you follow a vegan eating plan that eliminates processed foods. The theory is that you not only will control your weight, but you will maximize your energy levels. Due to the extreme nature of this eating plan, you should consult a doctor before trying to lose weight on the diet.

Step 1

Eliminate all meats, dairy and processed foods on the Thrive Diet. Foods not permitted include red meat, chicken, turkey, fish, canned vegetables, lunch meat, cheese, frozen food dinners, fast food and milk. Foods containing sugar are also not allowed on the Thrive Diet.

Step 2

Prepare a smoothie for breakfast. Blend fruits and vegetables. You may also add flax seed oil to the smoothie.

Step 3

Consume an energy bar as a snack. Since processed foods are not permitted on the diet plan, make your own energy bars from dried fruits and dried grains.

Step 4

Make a vegan lunch. Soups are staples on the Thrive Diet and always should be vegetable-based.

Step 5

Eat a large green salad for dinner. Mixed greens, along with a veggie burger, is a sample menu on the Thrive Diet. Use dressings that do not contain milk, such as tomato basil dressing.

Step 6

Cook to a low temperature. Foods that you eat on the diet should be served raw or only heated to a very low temperature. This keeps you from removing essential nutrients from the food items.

Step 7

Perform aerobic and strength training exercise on a regular basis. As you train, you'll increase the intensity of your workouts.

Tips and Warnings

  • The diet is low in protein and iron. Speak to your doctor about using supplements to correct any nutritional deficiencies.
