A yeast infection is the painful and itchy inflammation of the vagina caused by the Candida fungus. Additional symptoms can include a burning sensation while urinating, thick white discharges and vaginal soreness. According to Mayo Clinic, as many as 3 out of 4 women experience a yeast infection in their lifetime. Standard treatments for yeast infections are usually an application of antifungal cream and single-dose oral medication. However, you may treat a yeast infection with household items. According to John Lee, Jesse Hanley and Virginia Hopkins, authors of "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause," you can relieve the symptoms of a yeast infection with the application of apple cider vinegar. Always consult your doctor before using alternative treatments.
Step 1
Pour 2 cups of apple cider vinegar into a large bowl. Dilute the vinegar with 1 quart of water. The apple cider vinegar works by raising the acidity of the vagina, thereby creating a hostile environment for the yeast to thrive in.
Step 2
Fill the reusable douche with the mixture and douche as normal. Apply the douche twice a day.
Step 3
Prepare the mixture once a day and continue to douche for seven days. If the yeast infection symptoms have not diminished, seek treatment from a doctor.
