Yoga blankets are an important part of most yoga practices. They are useful for a bolster of support during for Asanas, and cozy to wrap up in during a meditation period called Savasana. Blankets assist you in getting into poses or remaining in a particular position longer. They provide welcome protection for bones and joints. Some blankets are relatively thin and flexible, others are made of a warm, thick fleece material. Yoga blankets are often rated for their durability, support and comfort.

The Manduka Yoga Blanket

The Manduka Yoga blanket is 60 inches by 82 inches, with a dense weave. It is recommended that you dry-clean the blanket, but it can be hand washed. "This blanket is definitely the one you want to count on to roll into a bolster for chest opening poses or folded to cushion and support your shoulder stand," according to Organic Bug's website, who selected it as the best yoga blanket, with a five out of five rating. It is made from 100 percent recycled wool and a synthetic blend. It's cozy, warm and soft to the touch, with color choices including grey, dark blue, green and red.

Classic Indian Yoga Blanket

Yoga Matter's website ranked the Classic Yoga Blanket best due to its ease in bolstering different areas of the body during your yoga practice. The 100 percent cotton, 5 feet by 7 feet 6 inch blanket is made in India. It is environmentally friendly and made from recycled fibers. It's offered in off-white, pink, and green. This blanket is firm and "great for folding and rolling," states Yoga Matters. The blanket has a small hem on two sides with blanket stitching on the others.

Delux Cotton Yoga Blanket

The Deluxe Cotton Yoga Blanket, without tassels, is the choice of the Yoga Trader website. This heavy blanket is and tightly woven for extra support. It's 80 inches long by 50 inches wide and is made from handwoven 100 percent cotton. It "features a heavy, dense, tight weave for extra warmth, support, and stability," according to Yoga Trader. The color choices are blue, grey, purple, wine, white and teal.

Considerations

Yoga blankets can be used during your yoga practice to provide extra eight, absorb sweat, or help you stay in a pose longer. Blankets are also very helpful during a meditation practice. Choose a blanket that suits your needs for warmth, stability, strength and style. For example, if you want the blanket mainly for meditation, choose a warm, cozy blanket in a soothing color; if you want a blanket mostly for bolstering, choose a thinner more supportive option.
