P90X is an Extreme Home Fitness Training System that features a 90-day intense training program in a 12 DVD set. The workouts include specific body part weight training, interval-style cardio, martial arts-inspired routines, and stretch and yoga routines. The P90X program is centered on weight loss; however, some of the routines are more effective at calorie burning than others.
Kenpo X
The Kenpo X video is an intense cardiovascular workout with punching and kicking for endurance, balance and coordination. This workout from the P90X program is ideal for weight loss since it will elevate heart rate, boost metabolism and burn a large amount of calories. Also, this routine is non-impact, making it a great choice for people with lower body injuries.
Plyometrics
The Plyometrics video included in the P90X program is the most intense cardio routine offered since it includes high-impact exercises such as jump squats, jumping lunges and other explosive movements. Plyometric exercises give your legs and muscles an intense workout that increases muscle potential and calorie burn via fast and powerful movements.
Cardio X
The Cardio X routine is a combination of all the cardio workouts included in the P90X program. The workout includes a hybrid of plyometrics, yoga, kenpo and other full body cardio exercises. This routine creates muscle confusion by challenging your body with a variety of movements to prevent the "plateau effect" when muscles stop growing.
Chest and Back
This workout targets the chest and back with a wide array of pushups and pullups. Although these exercises are not cardiovascular in nature, they burn a many calories over time as the body burn calories to build and repair muscle tissue. Beginners can perform pushups on their knees to build upper body strength and eventually do pushups on the toes. Pullups can be supplemented by wrapping a resistance band around a sturdy object and performing various lat pulldowns that emulate a pullup.
