The Ab Lounge 2 is one of a series of models made by Fitness Quest. It is an in-home fitness device that allows you to do ab exercises from the floor. The Ab Lounge resembles a lounge chair. You lie back in the device and perform variations of the jackknife ab exercise.
Specifications
The Ab Lounge 2 is 39.5 inches long, 30 inches wide, 44.5 inches tall and weighs about 32 pounds. It can support users up to 250 pounds. This version of the Ab Lounge is smaller than the original, which is 54 inches long, 31.75 inches wide, 45.5 inches tall and weighs 36 pounds. However, the original Ab Lounge supports heavier users, up to 275 pounds.
Design
The Ab Lounge 2 features a nylon pull-up strap above your head, a footrest and curved handlebars on each side of the chair. The device has a hinged joint where your hips sit. A wide A-frame elevates the chair off the floor and provides a stable base. Two elastic bands -- one short, one long -- attach the hinged section of the chair to the A-frame. These bands create the necessary tension that allows the chair to expand and contract with your body.
Exercises
The Ab Lounge 2 owner's manual provides picture demonstrations of the ab exercises you can do on the device. All exercises are variations of the basic jackknife. Hold the pull-up strap with both hands above your head. With your knees bent, push back on the unit to recline into a horizontal position. Exhale and pull your knees and chest forward. Let your lower back round out and focus on pulling from your abs, not your arms or legs. Pause for a count, then inhale and return to the horizontal position.
Considerations
The Ab Lounge 2 will not give you a lean, toned midsection by itself. You also need to include a full-body strength-training routine, a cardiovascular program and a nutrition plan. As of February 2011, Fitness Quest no longer makes either the original Ab Lounge or the Ab Lounge 2. The current model is the Ab Lounge Sport, which retails for about $100.
