The Weight Watchers eating plan consists of points assigned to foods and beverages. The points reflect the protein, carbohydrates, fat and fiber represented in each food. Members received a range of allowable points and if their daily food intake is within that range, they will lose weight. However, some foods are naturally higher in points than others are, so it makes sense to identify foods that contain zero points while enjoying weight loss.
Vegetables
Almost all vegetables contain zero points and that includes whether they are fresh, frozen or canned, as long as no additional ingredients that contain points are added. In combination, vegetables can create an entire no count meal. For example, the Weight Watchers zero point soup contains garlic, onion, spinach, fresh thyme, oregano, red pepper, fennel, vegetable stock and salt. Consider adding celery, carrots and green beans for a heartier version. Weight Watchers features various no point recipes, such as cauliflower poppers made by spraying one medium cauliflower with no-fat cooking spray and then sprinkling it with ground cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper. Bake in a preheated 400-degree oven for 10 minutes and enjoy as a snack or side dish.
Salad Dressings and Sauces
Salad dressings and sauces have a prominent place on the Weight Watchers no count food list especially if made with zero point ingredients. A ready-made fat-free dressing such as 1 tbsp. balsamic vinaigrette contains no points. Additional no point dressings include diet Italian dressing and fat-free red wine vinaigrette. Other zero point condiments that create nice salad dressings or dips include a variety of vinegars: white, distilled white, white wine, apple cider, red wine, rice, rice wine and sherry. In addition, fat-free Greek-style yogurt does not contain points.
To create a homemade no point herb sauce, Weight Watchers recommends combining 2 cups coarsely chopped watercress leaves, 3 tbsp. fresh chopped parsley leaves, 2 tbsp. chopped scallion, 3 tbsp. fresh basil mixed with 1/2 cup plain Greek-style fat-free yogurt and 1/2 tsp. salt.
Herbs and Spices
Most herbs do not contain Weight Watchers points. Adding fresh peppermint, oregano, garlic, chives, ginger, basil, spearmint, tarragon, thyme, dill weed and rosemary become a refreshing departure from bland foods.
Many spices are Weight Watchers no count foods such as fennel seed, fenugreek seed, Cajun seasoning, five-spice powder, garlic powder or salt, chili paste, garlic herb seasoning, coriander, Creole seasoning, cumin seeds, curry powder, dill seed, cayenne pepper, kosher salt and lemon pepper. Just about any spice imaginable continues the lists for no points including marjoram, nutmeg, paprika, cayenne pepper, poultry seasoning, pumpkin pie spice, reduced-sodium taco seasoning, saccharin, saffron, Italian seasoning and jerk seasoning.
Condiments, Beverages and Dairy
When looking for flavor boosters, certain condiments do not contain points, such as dill pickles without added sugar, chili sauce, horseradish, Asian hot sauces, black bean sauce, mustard, relish, fish sauce, Hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, pepper or hot sauce, steak sauce, taco sauce, tamari, Worcestershire sauce, smoke flavoring and soy sauce. Herb teas do not contain point either, along with brewed espresso, black coffee, diet soft drinks, beef bouillon, chicken bouillon, chicken broth, fat free, onion soup mix and vegetable bouillon or broth. Certain dairy products are zero point foods, including low-fat American cheese, fat-free creamer, egg whites and fat-free margarine.
