In order to stay healthy you'll need to make a few lifestyle changes. Proper nutrition, exercise, hydration, and enough sleep are all factors that can help you optimize your health. Once you incorporate healthy habits into your routine, your health should improve significantly.

Proper Nutrition

A diet rich in vitamins and nutrients is important to staying healthy. To maintain optimal health you should try to eat from the food pyramid. Eating from the pyramid will give you give you the guidelines for a healthy diet. For example adults need 6 oz. of grain with 3 oz. being from whole grains. They need 2 1/2 cups of vegetables, 2 cups of fruits, no more than 5 to 7 tsp. of oil, 3 cups of dairy and 5 1/2 oz. from the meat and beans category. By getting your daily intake from each section, your body will not be lacking any vitamins or nutrients. A proper diet will help your body to function fully and maintain optimal health.

Regular Exercise

Developing a regular exercise routine is a critical aspect needed in a healthy lifestyle. Besides keeping your body looking physically fit, exercise benefits you in a number of other ways. Exercise improves mood, manages weight, boosts energy, promotes better sleep and energizes you for better sex life. Physical activity can also help you combat other illnesses down the line. It can decrease your chances for certain diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Incorporating a regular exercise routine will help you feel better inside and out.

Prevent Dehydration

When properly hydrated, your body functions at its peak performance. Your energy levels stay up and you are able to concentrate better. If you become dehydrated your body is losing more water than it is taking in. Depending on how severe your dehydration is, there can be complications and side effects. It is recommended for optimal health that you intake about 8 cups of water per day. This number can also depend on your body size, composition, gender, and genetics. For example, if you are exercising intensely for an hour each day; you'll need more water.

Routine Sleep Schedule

If you aren't getting adequate sleep each night, you will feel both physically and mentally drained. Sleep deprivation can make it difficult to concentrate, feel alert, and perform daily tasks. If you aren't getting enough sleep it is unlikely that you will have the energy to fit in activities such as exercise. Both children and adults should aim to get between 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night. Creating a regular sleep schedule can help you ensure you are getting enough sleep.
