It can be a challenge to decide which machine to use for a cardiovascular workout. Cardiovascular training not only leads to weight loss, but also improves the heart’s health as well as oxygen levels. Both the bike and the treadmill aid in delivering a cardiovascular workout. However, one can be more effective than the other.

Bike

The bike comes in a number of different models. There is the stationary bike, the upright bike and the recumbent bike. All models deliver a thorough lower body workout, but only a stationary bike can engage the upper body. Resistance can be increased with most models, allowing a greater caloric burn. While the bike is a great choice in exercise, it does not offer any additional movement besides the cycling motion.

Treadmill

The treadmill is a very versatile machine. With the treadmill, you can use the moving belt for a number of exercises. Not only does this machine allow you to walk, run or sprint, but it can also be used for lunges, squats and skips. The resistance in the treadmill can also be increased by raising the incline for an up-hill climb.

Effective Exercise

While both machines deliver a thorough workout, the treadmill offers the most options for a diverse workout session. With the treadmill there are an array of exercises that can done. The bike, unlike the treadmill, does not allow much movement besides cycling, limiting your choices for additional exercises.

Considerations

The most effective machine is the one you will put the most effort into. If you prefer the bike over the treadmill, then exert great effort during your workout and it can be just as effective as the treadmill. In addition, consult your physician prior to partaking in an exercise regimen.
