There is no shortage of weight loss plans. Selecting the right method to lose weight, however, is important to meeting your goals. The best approach to dropping unwanted pounds includes combining physical activity with a low-calorie diet. A weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs. weekly is the fastest weight loss recommended.

Healthy Eating

One healthy way to shed pounds is through a healthy diet plan. Give up high-calorie snacks, such as chips and crackers, and opt for fresh fruit and vegetables instead. You need four servings of vegetables and three servings of fruit daily. Whole-grain carbohydrates also promote weight loss. You need three to seven servings daily of this food group. Whole-grain carbohydrates are high in fiber, allowing your body to feel satisfied for longer.

Also, select protein and dairy sources that are low-fat, such as cottage cheese, low-fat yogurt, beans, lentils and lean cuts of meat. Aim to eat three to seven servings daily. Also, eat three to five servings of healthy fats daily, such as avocados and nuts.

Interval Workouts

Professional athletes use interval training to strengthen the muscles and boost calorie burning more effectively. With this type of activity, you select two similar aerobic activities. One activity's pace is moderately intense while the other activity is intense. For example, you might swim at a slow pace, alternated with fast bursts of swimming. Another option is jogging at a slow pace, alternated with fast bursts of running.

Circuit-Training

Another option for losing weight is interval training. This type of activity increases your ability to burn calories up to 30 percent, according to "Fitness" magazine. With this activity, you rotate between intense cardio activity, such as jumping rope and strength-training movements. For example, you might jog for two minutes and complete alternating leg lunges for two minutes. Plan interval-training sessions that last at least 30 minutes.

Avoid Fad Diets

When selecting a weight loss plan, it's tempting to pursue a fad diet. This type of diet, however, can undermine your weight loss efforts. There isn't a magic food or pill that burns fat. Some diet supplements and herbs are even dangerous to your health. Red flags for fad diets include dramatic weight loss claims, no need for exercise and severe limitations on calories. The best diet approach needs to include a variety of foods you will enjoy eating long term.
