Lipton is a brand that sells numerous varieties of tea products. While many Lipton tea products share similarities in nutritional value, some are quite different. The type of tea and flavor of the product can significantly alter the nutrition facts. Always check the package of your Lipton product to determine specific nutrition fact amounts.
Calories
Most Lipton teas do not contain any calories. This is true for the black tea, green tea, herbal tea, pyramid teas, the unsweetened ice tea mix, the iced tea "to go" mixes and the bottled diet ice tea products. The diet iced tea mixes contain 5 calories per serving. Other iced tea mixes range from 70 to 80 calories per serving. The bottled iced tea contains 50 to 90 calories per serving. Keep in mind that adding extra ingredients to any tea, such as cream or sugar, will alter the amount of calories in the beverage.
Nutrients
Regardless of flavor or type, Lipton teas do not contain any fat, sodium or protein. The total amount of carbohydrates ranges from 0 to 23 g per serving. Many black teas do not contain any carbohydrates, but some flavors of black tea can have up to 1 g of carbohydrates per serving. The green tea, herbal tea, pyramid tea and "to go" mixes generally do not contain any carbohydrates. The bottled iced tea contains the highest amount of carbohydrates, up to 23 g per serving. Most of the carbohydrates from these beverages come from sugar. Lipton tea usually does not provide any vitamins or minerals, with the exception of the "energize" green tea with blueberry pomegranate iced tea to go product. This beverage provides 10 of the recommended daily value of vitamin B-12, niacin, panthothenic acid, vitamin B-6 and riboflavin. Each serving of this flavor also has 50 mg of caffeine per serving.
Flavonoids
Flavonoids are compounds that occur naturally in many foods and beverages including tea. Although research is ongoing, it is believed that consuming products containing flavonoids may offer numerous health benefits, including cardiovascular health, suppression of tumor growth and prevention of blood clots, an noted in a summer 2004 article in the journal, "Plant Foods for Human Nutrition." Lipton black tea tends to offer the highest amounts of flavonoids, typically 105 to 175 mg per serving. Flavored black tea, green tea and pyramid tea also have a decent amount of flavonoids, with amounts ranging from 65 to 150 mg per serving. Lipton bottled iced tea products may contain up to 72 mg of flavonoids per serving, but some flavors do not contain any flavonoids. Lipton "to go" mixes usually contain between 72 to 80 mg of flavonoids per serving. Lipton herbal tea and iced tea mixes may not contain flavonoids. Always check the package for specific amounts of flavonoids based on the flavor and type of Lipton product you have.
Caffeine
While many Lipton teas contain a substantial amount of caffeine, many do not. Lipton herbal teas are caffeine-free. Lipton decaffeinated teas generally have about 4 to 5 mg of caffeine per serving. The black teas have between 45 and 55 mg of caffeine per serving, with the exception of the cold brew formula, which only has 10 to 15 mg of caffeine per serving. The flavored black teas have between 10 and 35 mg of caffeine per serving, with the exception of the spicy chai black tea which has 55 mg of caffeine per serving. Lipton green teas have between 22 and 35 mg of caffeine per serving, while Lipton white teas have 13 to 18 mg of caffeine per serving. The iced tea mixes, "to go" mixes and bottled products may contain up to 55 mg of caffeine per serving, but most contain much less than this amount. Check the package to determine the specific amount of caffeine in your Lipton product.
