There are a variety of oils on the market and you often hear about the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids for your health, but it can be difficult to know which oils are best. According to the Diet Channel, the healthiest oils are characterized by monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, and two healthy oils available include fish oil and creel oil.

Healthy Fat Benefits

Healthful sources of fat found in certain types of oils provide the body with various benefits, including contributing to energy stores, lubricating the digestive track, protecting organs, and allowing for the absorption of fat-soluble vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K. According to the Diet Channel, healthy fats also help to maintain healthy skin and hair.

Fish Oil

Fish oil provides a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids and most scientists and health professionals agree that these help to reduce the risk of a heart attack, improve brain function, lower triglyceride levels and balance cholesterol, according to Omega3-dha.com. Additionally, fish oil, which is available as a capsule or in pure oil form, improves joint function by reducing inflammation and joint pain. Taking this healthy supplement regularly can also have benefits for diabetics, as fish oil enhances insulin secretion from beta cells in the pancreas and regulates blood sugar levels.

Creel Oil

Creel oil or krill oil is another type of fish oil that provides a range of health benefits due to its content of omega-3 fatty acids and other components, according to Ray Sahelian, M.D. Creel oil comes from the oil of tiny crustaceans and contains important omega-3 fatty acids such as EPA and DHA, as well as the potent antioxidant astaxanthin, vitamin A, and vitamin E. A few studies also show that this oil may help to maintain healthy cholesterol levels and play a role in premenstrual syndrome and menstrual cramps.

Considerations

While both types of oils are highly beneficial for your health, there are certain points to consider when it comes to the differences between creel oil and fish oil. According to Dr. Sahelian, more research is needed before determining the role of creel oil supplements in health and disease. It is also uncertain if creel oil supplements offer any advantages over fish oil supplements. There have not been any substantial comparisons between creel oil supplements versus fish oil supplements, so it is premature to claim that either one is a healthier choice. Always consult your doctor before taking any supplement.
