If you're a teen who wants to lose weight fast and easy, you should follow basic health advice to lose weight in a healthy way and keep the weight off. People who resort to crash dieting aren't able to keep the weight off, because it's not something that can be done long-term. Lose weight by exercising on a regular basis and making healthy eating choices for most meals and snacks.
Step 1
Get a small journal and keep track of what you're eating. Most teens aren't aware of how many calories they consume when they eat a couple handfuls of popcorn at the movie theater and then go for ice cream sundaes afterward. Figure out how many calories you should be eating each day by asking your primary care physician and then try to stick to that number.
Step 2
Cut back on your portions to eat the right number of calories each day. Drink water throughout the day and stop drinking soda.
Step 3
Stop eating when you feel full. It takes about 20 minutes to feel full after eating, so eat slowly and enjoy each bite. Instead of finishing the whole dish of Chinese takeout because it's in front of you, save the rest for lunch the next day.
Step 4
Pack healthy snacks. If you have after school activities like soccer or cheerleading, go from one activity to another or always find yourself looking for a fast bite to eat, keep a few healthy snacks with you. Pack an orange, celery sticks and hummus and some yogurt. Eat one of your healthy snacks as soon as you start to feel hungry, before you crave something unhealthy.
Step 5
Get active. If you spend your afternoons playing video games or watching television, you're not moving your body enough. Go hiking with a friend, take a dance class or join a sports team. One of the best ways to lose weight fast is to exercise and participate in activities that raise your heart rate.
Step 6
Lose weight with a friend. If you have a friend that's also trying to lose weight, check in with each other on a daily basis. Go out to dinner once a week and make sure you each order something healthy and take regular walks together. It's easier to do something hard like losing weight if you have someone to do it with.
Tips and Warnings
- Allow yourself to have unhealthy meals a couple times a week or give in to your chocolate craving twice a week. You don't want to restrict yourself so much that you feel like it's torture to lose weight, because you'll end up giving up or gorging on the restricted food.
