Schwinn speedometers are accessories designed for use on bicycles. These devices work by keeping a count of how many revolutions your bicycle's front wheel makes. By combining this data with the size of the wheel and the time elapsed between revolutions, the device can calculate an estimate of your current speed and the distance you have traveled.
Sensor Installation
For the speedometer to be able to count the revolutions properly, you must mount a sensor unit and a magnet to the front fork and wheel. Use the attached ties to bind the sensor unit to the front fork, then remove the screw from the back of the magnet. Fit the magnet onto one of the spokes and slide it next to the sensor unit. Replace the screw in the back of the magnet to secure it into place. Each time the magnet passes in front of the sensor unit, the speedometer will record a revolution.
Display Installation
The first step in installing the display is to attach its mounting point to your bicycle's handlebars. Use a screw to attach the display mount to the handlebar bracket, then loosen the screw at the bottom of the bracket. Slide the bracket onto your handlebars and tighten the screw to secure the bracket in place. If necessary, slide the packaged shims next to the bracket to keep it from shifting. Once the mount is in place, install the display by sliding it into place.
Wiring
At one end of the sensor unit, you will find an attached wire. Wrap this wire around the front fork to keep it from dangling, then connect the end to the display unit. After installation, twist the handlebars from side to side to ensure that the wire will not disconnect while you are riding. Use cable ties to secure the wire to the front fork once you've completed the wiring process.
Operation
The largest set of numbers displayed on the speedometer is your current speed, while the smaller set of numbers displayed underneath is your average speed. Pressing the button on the right side of the speedometer will replace the smaller set of numbers with other display modes, such as an odometer, clock, maximum speed and trip timer. To set the clock, press the right button until the appropriate display appears, then hold down the left button for two seconds; use these buttons to input the current time.
