What Are the Exercises in Wii Fit?

"Wii Fit" includes 48 exercises in four categories: aerobics, balance games, strength training and yoga. When you first purchase "Wii Fit," only four or five games in each category will be available to you, but as you accumulate play time, you'll gain access to additional exercises or more advanced versions of exercises you've already unlocked.

Aerobics

"Wii Fit" features four aerobic activities that comprise nine exercises. In hula hoop and super hula hoop, you stand on the balance board and rotate your hips, aiming for as many complete rotations as you can within the time limit. Other digital avatars, known as "Mii", will toss additional hula hoops at your Mii; you can lean your body over to catch them and add multipliers to your score. The basic and advanced step exercises also use the balance board, and you step on and off the board in time to the instruction given on the screen. Rhythm boxing uses both the balance board and the Wii remote, and you step on and off the board while throwing punches. In the basic and 2-P or two-player runs, you jog in place alone or with a partner. Free step and free run let you set a time limit for those activities and change the channel on your set so you can watch television during your workout.

Balance Games

"Wii Fit" has nine balance games, some of which have multiple difficulty levels. In soccer heading, you lean to the left or right to hit soccer balls with your head, trying to avoid the other obstacles that come at you. Shift your weight as you ski down a mountain to pass through the flags in ski slalom and snowboard slalom. In ski jump, you crouch, then stand sharply to jump off the ramp, keeping your balance in the air for a smooth landing. In penguin slide, you're a penguin trying to catch tossed fish while maintaining your balance on an iceberg. Shift your weight to navigate balls into holes through a series of levels in table tilt. In tightrope walk, you slowly walk in place to move your Mii across a tightrope, jumping over obstacles and dealing with strong winds. Navigate your Mii down a twisty river in balance bubble, and sit completely still on the balance board for as long as you can in lotus focus.

Strength Training

The strength training segment includes 12 exercises and three challenges. Exercises include single-leg extensions and single-leg twists, torso twists, push-up and side planks, jackknifes, lunges, rowing squats, single-leg lefts, planks, triceps extensions, arm and leg lifts and single arm stands. In the push-up, jackknife and plank challenges, you compete with your in-game trainer to see who can perform the most within the time limit.

Yoga

Yoga poses and exercises in "Wii Fit" include deep breathing, half-moon, warrior, tree, sun salutation, standing knee, palm tree, chair, triangle, downward-facing dog, king of the dance, cobra, bridge, crocodile twist and shoulder stand. Some of these poses are performed on the balance board, while others are done without the use of Wii controllers.
