Want to impress others with your nutrient dense breakfast? An egg contains all of the essential amino acids, 13 vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, protein and fat. What a great way to start your day.

Calories and Fat

An egg typically contains 70 calories and 4.5 g of fat. Dependant upon egg size, calories can fluctuate by about 5 calories. 2 g of an egg's fat comes from monounsaturated fat, or heart healthy fat.

Vitamins and Minerals

An egg has 13 different vitamins and minerals that contribute to health and well-being. For example, folate contributes to the development of red blood cells and phosphorous helps the body produce energy.

Protein

Make sure that you eat the yolk. Nearly half of an egg's protein is found in the orange middle. Protein helps build muscle and body tissue.

Cholesterol

Sworn off eggs because of the cholesterol content? While an egg does deliver close to 71 percent of a person's daily cholesterol needs, they are healthy if eaten in moderation. On days that you eat eggs, lower your intake of cholesterol from other foods.

Carbohydrates and Sodium

Eggs are not carbohydrate source and contain very little sodium (3 percent of the daily recommendation).
